Why did flight 207 crash? The investigation has shown nothing wrong with the plane, and where are the pilots?

Phil Ryan, a jaded, ex-military, NTSB investigator encounters much more than expected while pursuing what was supposed to be an ordinary crash investigation.

Conspiracy within the airline, and even within his own agency, keeps him from finding the answers. A sudden murder only deepens the mystery, and as time runs out with the killer on the loose, Phil and his crack team zero in on the truth - a dark secret with the power to rock the airline business to its core.

RVR-500 draws you into the story and along the way, makes you think twice about boarding a commercial aircraft. A fiction novel based on several actual events neatly tied together, it is one exciting aviation thriller.

RVR500 edition by Dennis Rhein Literature Fiction eBooks

A plane crashes on landing in bad weather and the NTSB is called to investigate, as it should. An enterprising lead investigator carries the investigation to its full conclusion, bravely ignoring his boss’s heavy-handed attempts to cover-up the true causes of the accident. Adventures ensue.

“RVR-500” is well-enough written, but not really captivating. The story should be quite good, but it’s let down by uninspired dialogue, stereotypical characters and a curious lack of life spirit. The air-crash investigation itself is quite straightforward, showing a commendable belief in the system. After all, we do live in the best of the possible worlds, where the bad characters have no chance when confronted with the overwhelming power of the good institutions of the commonwealth. A plain story plainly told, a good choice for those readers who like airplane stories and have a few hours to spare.

Somewhat slow moving.
Good story. Very good book for first time author
Excellent! Well written, holds your attention.
I loved your book. As a military brat and former safety inspector in the Marine Corps my father, Glenn Knight, knew I would be interested and he was totally right. Love the twists and turns and especially the love and partnership shown for Grace. I enjoyed your writing style and will be anticipating your next work of art.
This book is about an NTSB investigation that gets very complex and dangerous. It's an excellent book with plenty of technical information to keep aviation geeks like myself entertained. The characters in the book are well developed and the plot is excellent. I really liked this book.
I enjoy mystery thrillers and aviation. Combine them into one and I'm very happy. The author, a professional pilot, knows airplanes, flying, air crash investigation and how to tell a good story. This book should keep your attention all the way through and teach you something about air crash investigation at the same time. On the critical side, non pilots may need to read the aviation glossary at the end of the book to understand some of the aviation lingo. I think the author could have found a way to explain the terms as they are used. The glossary could still be used for a more advanced explanation. One writing technique the writer used that I, as a writer, am not wild about is to have more than one narrator. One narrator is first person point of view. But other characters' deeds are described in third person point of view (which necessarily means there are two or more narrators). It's a legitimate way to tell a story but not my favorite. Also, when the writer changes character point of view, there are no dividers marks (at least none that show on my iPhone where I read this novel) to signal the reader that the narrator has now switched to another character 's point of view. This confused me several times. Also, on a few occasions, there are descriptions of information or events that would not be in a particular character's senses/knowledge. This detracts a little. In spite of these few writing techniques that I think could use some work, this is still an interesting, informative and well written novel and I recommend it. I look forward to reading more by this author (and no, I've never met or talked with the author).
It starts out as an accident investigation and evolves into international intrigue and murder so smoothly that at some point you stop reading and say to yourself, "Wha. . .wh. . .what?"
The investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board is intriguing enough. We hear the news conferences but have no idea how they come up with their conclusions. This book gives us an insight into a little known investigative system that alone might make a good story and certainly creates the base for a page-turning adventure.
Capt. Rhein, himself a mustang, does a great job of explaining the ring of collusion within the professional military officer class. He's obviously felt the gut wrenching agony of a non-commissioned or warrant officer trying to get his or her job done running directly into the intransigence and self serving of professional military officers. He takes it to its logical end in a thriller that keeps you in your seat waiting for the next investigative path to open. Not only did I enjoy reading this, it was fun.
Here's hoping the Phil Ryan will reconsider his request to retire or that the new political appointee as head of the NTSB brings him back as his or her deputy.
